Qualifications:
After leaving school I completed a four-year Bachelor of Social Work and worked as a social worker in Adelaide, country South Australia, and rural Victoria. While working in Victoria, I returned to study and completed a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology major) and Graduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology and, after a further two years supervision, qualified as a psychologist. I have also completed a Developmental Psychiatry course, certificate in Clinical Hypnotherapy, and am now undertaking studies towards my Doctorate of Clinical Psychology.
Experience:
Having worked in a regional area with limited services for many years, I have had the opportunity of working with a much broader range of issues than is common for many city-based psychologists. I worked in a variety of counselling and health settings before entering private practice eleven years ago. My experience includes working as a family counsellor in a community-based agency, as a rehabilitation counsellor, as part of an adult psychiatric team, as a member of a child and adolescent mental health services team, and as a consultant to the education department. In private practice I have been able to continue this diversity of work and enjoy the variety and challenge that it offers.
Areas of interest:
I enjoy working with people of all ages, from young children, to teenagers, to adults across the age spectrum. Much of my work has involved the provision of services to people (children and adults) with various mental health issues. I have found that many people, when provided with information and simple strategies, are able to recover rapidly from the common mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and stress.
Some other major issues with which I have worked extensively are relationships, parenting, disability, adoption (particularly intercountry adoption), trauma, and services to children with emotional or behavioural problems.
Services offered:
In addition to counselling and therapy, I offer assessments of various sorts, including intellectual, personality, and vocational assessments. These can be of value for young adults trying to identify a suitable career or course of study, for adults forced to change occupation because of injury or illness, or for people looking to change career for whatever reason. Children struggling at school often benefit from a thorough intellectual/cognitive assessment that identifies their strengths and weaknesses across a variety of learning areas, and makes recommendations of strategies to enhance their learning and confidence.
I provide professional supervision to a variety of health and welfare professionals regarding professional practice, and the interaction between work and personal issues.
I am available for consultation to community organisations and agencies, and can provide specific or general education seminars about a range of topics including (but not restricted to) stress management, parenting, relationship, coping with change, communication, and achieving balance in life.
Professional affiliations:
I am a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), and practice in accordance with their code of ethics. I am a member of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists and APS Division of Independently Practising Psychologists. I am a member of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and Psychology, Child, Adolescent and Family Psychology, Gay and Lesbian Issues and Psychology, Narrative Theory and Practice in Psychology, and Psychologists for Peace interest groups
I am also a member of:

I am registered to practice as a psychologist in South Australia and the Northern Territory, and am a registered WorkCover provider. I am a registered provider of psychological services with the Health Insurance Commission and private health insurance companies, which means that people with private health insurance with extras cover who utilise my services may be eligible for a rebate from their health fund.
